Former MP Admits to Harassment During Personal Struggles

Katie Wallis, formerly known as Jamie Wallis and widely recognised as the UK’s first openly transgender Member of Parliament, has admitted to harassing her ex-wife, Rebecca Wallis, during a difficult and emotional period of personal transition. Wallis pleaded guilty to the charge in court, following a series of unwanted messages and voicemails sent between February and March 2025. Although initial charges included allegations of stalking and driving past her ex-wife’s home, those particular charges were dropped as part of the proceedings.

Wallis had served as the Conservative MP for Bridgend from 2019 until she stepped down in 2023, choosing not to seek re-election. Her time in public office was marked not only by her work in Parliament but also by the deeply personal and public journey she undertook in coming out as transgender. According to information presented in court, Wallis experienced severe mental health difficulties during her transition. A major contributing factor to this emotional distress, it was said, stemmed from a breakdown in her relationship with Rebecca, who reportedly did not support her decision to live full-time as a woman. Their divorce was finalised in 2024, after 15 years together and raising two children.

The harassment reportedly began when Rebecca informed Katie of a new relationship, which triggered an emotional reaction. In light of this, the judge has requested a psychiatric assessment focusing on gender dysphoria, which will play a key role in determining Wallis’s sentence at a later date, scheduled for mid-July. This case, while painful for those involved, has also brought to light the significant challenges and emotional complexities that can accompany gender transition, especially when intertwined with deeply personal relationships and public scrutiny.

Wallis had previously spoken openly about other traumatic experiences, including being raped in 2021 and having been blackmailed in 2020 over her gender identity. Her admission of guilt in this latest case marks another difficult chapter in her personal life, one that has unfolded in the public eye. As sentencing approaches, the court will weigh the seriousness of the harassment against the broader context of mental health, personal trauma, and gender identity struggles. It’s a sobering reminder that behind public figures are private lives filled with complex emotions and often unseen battles.
