Human Rights

Colombo  May 18, 2025, marks 16 years since the Sri Lankan government declared victory over the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), ending a brutal 26-year civil war. Despite the conflict’s end, Tamil women who suffered atrocities during the war are still demanding justice and reparations.

Human Rights Watch has spotlighted the ongoing struggle of these women, emphasizing the lack of accountability for war crimes and human rights abuses committed during the conflict.

Advocates call for stronger government action to address these unresolved issues, including investigations, reparations, and support for survivors.

The international community continues to urge Sri Lanka to uphold human rights commitments and ensure meaningful justice for victims.
