The European Union has condemned a cyberattack on the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attributing it to a Chinese state-backed hacking group. EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas labeled the incident a breach of international norms and warned of potential consequences if such actions continue.
The cyber campaign, identified as originating from the APT31 group linked to China’s Ministry of State Security, began in 2022. Czech authorities have since enhanced their cybersecurity infrastructure.
In response, the Czech Republic summoned the Chinese ambassador to express disapproval. The EU has urged China to prevent its territory from being used for malicious cyber activities.
This incident underscores growing concerns over cyber threats and the need for international cooperation to uphold cybersecurity standards.
