10,000 Protesters Rally in Budapest Against Controversial Bill Targeting Orbán Critics

Human Rights

Budapest  Around 10,000 protesters took to the streets of Hungary’s capital to oppose a government bill that would enable the blacklisting of individuals and organizations critical of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s administration.

Critics argue the legislation represents a serious threat to freedom of expression and democratic rights in Hungary, allowing the government to silence opposition voices under the guise of national security.

The right-wing government defends the bill as necessary to protect against misinformation and external interference, but opposition parties and civil society warn it could accelerate democratic backsliding.

International human rights groups have voiced deep concern over the proposed law, calling for its withdrawal.
